Robotics & Neuroscience
Explore the story behind my individual research report on the future and ethics of implementing robotics, and my written argument on reimagining peer pressure in adolescents from a neuroscience perspective.
The Capstone Project is a graduation requirement at our school and it is also one of my favorite courses. It is an academic writing course that consists of: AP Seminar for grade 11's, and AP Research for seniors. However, the class is a combination of teacher-led, self-taught, and project-based; meaning that we always try to find correlations and inspirations about what we are reading/researching/writing and real life implementation. For my grade 11, I had already been doing a project on robotics in agriculture using arduinos, and I thought that it is a great idea to learn about robotics from a different perspective that is not technical. Thus, I spent hours analyzing research and academic papers on the ethics of robotics and the future of implementing them. After that, I collected all the sources and wrote a research report where I don't share my opinion but rather make it as if like all the sources are talking to each other. With the research question: Should we fully integrate robotics in everyday life l intersected history and Sci-Fi, to present day robots, to the future of robotics. Mapping the challenges and their counter arguments!
For my second paper, I followed a line of reasoning to present my own opinion and argument about peer pressure in adolescents. I had lately been reading The Idiot Brain by Dean Burnett, it is a neuroscience book and I found its correlations to social life to be very analytical and thorough. I decided to write my argument about re-imagining peer pressure as a positive thing, from a neuroscience lens. I put a lot of hard work into creating this paper, and the learning experience was amazing! If you are interested in neuroscience, a teenagers, or have kids and worried about peer pressure. I strongly suggest you take a look at my argument of peer pressure being a positive thing!
